Basic FDIC Insurance Coverage Permanently Increased to $250,000 Per Depositor

On July 21, 2010, President Barack Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act,
which, in part, permanently raises the current standard maximum deposit insurance amount to $250,000.
The standard maximum insurance amount of $100,000 had been temporarily raised to $250,000 until December 31, 2013.
The FDIC insurance coverage limit applies per depositor, per insured depository institution for each account ownership category.

You're Just a Virus in Disguise

In our last article, we discussed four simple tips to protect yourself from scam artist's trying to steal your money.
Just last week, the FDIC sent out an alert stating they received numerous reports of fraudulent e-mails which gave the appearance of being sent from the FDIC.
In the spirit of the recent FDIC alert, Bank of Commerce would like to focus on Tip #4: "Don't Click".

Your Risky Mailbox: Your Identity's In the Mail

You would think that paying your bills online or using your online banking
services would put you at greater risk for identity theft, but nothing could be further from the truth. When you're conducting financial transactions
online - safely - you're far more protected than when you send checks through the mail that can be stolen, washed, and re-used. If you haven't
set up electronic statements and bill pay, now is a good time.

Save money with these office productivity alternatives to Microsoft Office

Most everyone who uses a computer today is familiar with the ever popular Microsoft Office software suite.
Many people I talk to assume that it is included inside Windows and are frustrated that the brand new computer they just
purchased at the big box electronics store doesn't include the basic Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Even worse - many new computers come with a free, limited-time trial that lets you think you have what you need until
the 60 days are up and all of the sudden you are expected to type in your credit card number for several Benjamins so
you can open that really cool Thomas Kincade PowerPoint your aunt just sent you.

Debit vs. Credit Cards: How they Stack Up

Federal law includes protections against debit card errors and the loss or theft of your card, although consumers are required to promptly report a lost debit card or unauthorized transaction.
In addition, industry practices may give you added protection. Debit cards, which work like electronic checks, are becoming more widely used as an alternative to credit cards to pay for goods and services. To help you better
understand how the two types of cards work and the potential benefits and concerns, we offer this quick guide.
